The Root! The Root! The Root Chakra’s on Fire!

Root Chakra on FireThere’s a transformational fire burning in my pants! My root chakra is ablaze. You might have caught the reference to the 1984 song “The Roof is on Fire!” by Rock Master Scott & the Dynamic Three. “Ironically,” I was working with Rock Medicine last night to draw some energy out of my legs. But that little diddy came to me this morning between a gulp of fresh-squeezed orange juice and a bite of whole wheat toast. It’s my new mantra for the root chakra work I’m doing right now.

Some days ago, in preparation for the upcoming Healing & Vision Quest to Peru, I decided to use a new “Lighten Up” mantra in my chakra work and see what would happen. It’s interesting how many things happen without you realizing that they happen in connection with an intention that you’ve put out. I have been lit up with great clarity about the path I need to take, information about integrating some healing techniques I’d used in the past, and I also came across yet another old, forgotten teaching, this time about chi development. The first was an affirmation to stay in alignment.

When I first started the Lighten Up mantra a few days ago, it literally knocked me unconscious. Two cleansing spins of the root chakra with a “lighten up!” “lighten up!” and I was out like a light. I woke up, two more spins, two more chants, and BAM! Out again. Clearly something heavy there in consciousness. “Take it to the Fire,” Spirit whispered to me. I started to draw out the debris with my hands and burn it during a personal fire ceremony inside my little Brooklyn apartment.

I’ve lost a few pounds since doing this too, even though that wasn’t my intention and despite the fact that weeks ago when I was actually trying to get rid of those last stubborn pounds, I had no success. What happens in the body (or doesn’t happen) is not a purely physical event. The body conforms to the “code” generated by consciousness and the energy body. Fight against the code, and results will be slow going and short lived. But if you change the code and sufficiently alter what is present in consciousness and energy, the physical responds more readily to whatever regiment you employ.

Unprocessed emotional energy can have a devastating effect on health and well-being as it densifies inside the physical body. The effects can be immediate if the emotion is intense enough or they can manifest over many years. I remember weighing myself one morning, and as I stepped off the scale, I lost my balance and nearly fell. Something told me to weight myself again. During the split second in which I was engulfed in the fear and panic of falling, I gained two pounds. The extra weight was gone once the “excitement” dissipated. Suppressing your emotions, by the way, is not the same as allowing that energy to dissipate. Suppressed emotions are still there, sinking deeper into the core of your being as they grow heavier with each passing day.

These heavy energies don’t always manifest as extra pounds, of course. But the point is they do manifest. And somehow or other you will feel it–hopefully before there is too little time or energy to restore the balance. Regular use of spiritual, mental, emotional and physical practices (including dietary practices) that help to clear the Root Chakra is good self-maintenance.

My root chakra now glows with a nice white light, which is certainly far better than the “glow” of unconsciousness. So, to all students enlightenment and spiritual awakening, I remind you to Lighten Up!
