The great spiritual masters of the world have consistently taught that to know the self is to know the secrets of the Universe. The Self, of course, is more than just your personal identity.
Identification with your Essential Self expands as you move deeper into the spiritual journey. The more identified with the Essential Self you become, the greater your understanding of who you really are. And if you take a good look–a conscious look– every day, every moment in fact, you will find an opportunity to understand something new about yourSelf. Whatever it is you understand the most, will offer you the greatest opportunity for growth and evolution. So right now, this very instant, what do you understand most about yourSelf?

This past week, I’ve been using the words “outreachâ€? and “reach outâ€? a lot. I’ve been organizing a lot of events and have had to reach out to various people to help ensure the events’ success. But just a few seconds ago when I was contemplating my day and thinking of what I learned about my Self today, it dawned on me that all of the reaching out has been highly symbolic. Ever since my trip to Peru last July when I worked with the shaman, don Victor—and even before that, starting with a healers’ training I attended two weeks prior—there’s been this definite opening that’s been happening. Whenever you have a part of you that’s hidden behind a wall, there’s also a part of you that wants someone to reach in and embrace you because you assume you’ll find comfort in that. The idea of reaching out from behind the wall seems a daunting task–partly, I think, because you’re carrying all this baggage with you and placing such high expectations on the outcome. But when the wall is down, and you’re reaching out as a creative act—as creative expression—the energy is completely different. The energy is free, more balanced and naturally nurturing. It really does take a lot more energy to hold everything in than it does to open up and reach out. So what did I learn about mySelf today? Contrary to my long-held beliefs, I really do like reaching out to people. That’s when I’m at my most natural best.
What have I learned about myself today?
Well a realization that I overlooked many parts of myself and the person I thought I was or must be. Instead of looking at the I AM inside and excepting everything I had to offer to the most important person outside of the ego-self. I’ve discovered by finally looking in I was over seeing the fact that I’ve spent so long searching outside of myself as to my place in this world and the path I thought I was destined to lead. I took a course for a certificate in understanding the chakras because I thought if one knows more about how the energy flows within us we then will learn about ourselves and who we truly are? For the most part that is correct I now know how my body affects my mind and the same in reverse. But nevertheless the quest of who AM I still was unresolved.Well, I can say what I understand about myself today is that I AM everything I was yesterday and willing to grow and become tomorrow. The expression “time waits for no man” really had played a role in my life. I felt I had to find my great purpose in life and every second I was pondering was a waste of that time. Then surely my time was running out.- Not at all true.In every moment I had to ponder an opportunity was waiting, like a silent whisper talking to me behind the chattering of my thoughts of “I have to do this in order to get me there” ideals. I understand now about myself to live within the moment and every moment. Because this is the time that truly matters in my life and the opportunities that arise because I’ve taken time away and stopped to smell the flowers in my life.
