Universe, I Need a Nickel (and Other Things)

When people say the Universe will provide you with everything you need, they really mean it. We, as humans, or rather as the products of our particular society, probably think that some things are too petty to ask the Universe to provide. Based on my experience, nothing is too big or too small for the Universe to conjure up—not even five cents.
I found myself at the vending machine one day completely dismayed that I had miscounted my change and was one nickel short of a much-craved popcorn and Hershey Bar snack. If someone would have walked by I would have asked for a nickel. Nobody walked by. Did I want to walk all the way back to my office to scrounge for a nickel, then come all the way back to the machine for my snack, and then walk all the way back again to eat it? Not really. Wow, I thought. It sure would be a lot simpler if I just found a nickel right where I’m standing. AHA! Why not ask the Universe for a nickel? It’s got plenty of them to spare.
“Universe,” I quietly mouth the words, “I need a nickel. Can you manifest one for me, please?” I look down expecting to find a nickel on the floor by my feet our just under the machine but within reach. Nothing. I keep scanning the floor. The red glare of the soda machine grabs my attention. I stick my fingers into the coin return. Nothing. I scan the floor again. Still Nothing. Ah, but there’s also the sandwich machine. Into the coin return the fingers go once again. This time, they pull out 75 cents. That’s 15x the amount I asked for. How’s that for manifestation! “Thank You!” I said delighted, walking off with my snacks as if they were amusement park prizes.
Those things never cease to amaze me when they happen, whether I’ve asked directly for something like a healing for someone or a parking space, or whether something I’ve been thinking about just shows up at my door step–literally. For example, I had been packing for a week-long intensive program with my Mystery School (a school for spiritual training) and I wanted an elastic rope thingy with the hooks on both ends to secure my camping tent to the luggage caddy. I had gone on quite the treasure that week for this thing and came up empty handed. I gave it one more try on Saturday to no avail. In a place like New York City, I couldn’t believe this thing was so hard to find, and nobody I asked knew where to send me to get it. Exasperated, I returned to my apartment building to find a bright yellow and orange elastic rope with hooks on the end lying on the hallway floor. No way! I could hardly contain myself. That’s what happened before I left for Mystery School. Let me tell you the mind blowing thing that happened when I got back.
I stood in the kitchen doorway staring at the broken 13-inch television that had been sitting on the floor for months. I hadn’t wanted to throw it out because I just bought it on sale for $99. I simply wanted it to work again and not have to go out and buy another one. But wait. Hadn’t we been talking about manifestation all week in school? Yes! Hadn’t we been reminded that we are God? Yes! And isn’t God powerful enough to fix a broken TV? Yes!
I don’t remember exactly what I said, but I remember shaking my hand like a genie with a magic wand at that TV. I remember calling on the power of my teacher and the Universe. I remember affirming that I am divine. And I remember visualizing the TV coming on when I pressed the power button. After about three minutes or so, I lifted the set, placed it on the kitchen table, plugged it in, press the button, and poof! On it came. I must have run around my house squealing with thank yous and joy for about an hour. Then I called up some of the other students and told them all about it.
So the next time you find yourself in need of something, or wanting to create some magic in your life, remember that “ask and ye shall receive,” is not just a saying, it is the truth. Get into the habit of relying on the Source for all things—and conducting yourself like you are entitled to receive them.

I have a perfect example of how the Universe provides not only what we need at present but also looks ahead for what we’ll need in the future. Last July, when I had been living in a seedy extended stay motel since January, had no money for food most days and had two evictions on my credit report, not to mention the worst credit in the world, my friend told me about a place that he saw for rent. He had called the owner and set up an appointment for us to go look at it. I had no money for a deposit and had been turned down by several other people because of my credit. When I looked at the place, it felt right. I really liked it. The rent was more than I was paying at the motel, plus I would also have to pay for electric and water, sewer, garbage, etc. I would also need to pay for a phone. I had only my clothes and a very few personal belongings because anything else that I had before was gone.
Because I had been reading a book, The Game of Life and How to Play It by Florence Scovel Shinn, and the place felt right, I thought, what the heck, I’ll put in an application and see what happens. The worst he can do is say no. The owner wasn’t too impressed with my credit but he took a chance on me, allowed me to pay the deposit in installments and allowed me to pay rent every two weeks when I get paid instead of once a month. So in August I moved into an empty house. I struggled to pay the rent for the first couple of months but I always had what I needed when I needed it. I thought I can buy furniture in the future but at least I have a roof over my head. One day my friend and I found a couch that had been put out for trash. Except for a couple of rips in the seat cushion (covered up nicely with a sheet) it was in very good shape. Worked perfectly for sitting on and sleeping on. Then one day a co-worker was clearing out her house and I had cups to drink out of, a coffee maker, sheets, books, etc. Then my friend went to visit his family for a couple of months. Turns out his Dad was selling his house and had to consolidate. So, one day my friend and his dad pulled up with a U-Haul truck filled with furniture, a computer, a day bed, a TV. Suddenly I’m living in a furnished house. I didn’t need money to buy all those things. The Universe brought it all to me. As for bills, the money is always there when I need it. I even have a little extra to buy myself a new pair of shoes. Here’s an extra bonus that I just recently realized. I’m looking into getting training to become a Personal Life Coach. The house is set up perfectly for me to have a business where I can bring clients here and have a separate area away from my living space to meet with them. Duh, does the Universe know what it’s doing? I’m thinking yes.
Excellent! The Universe is always on your side–always acting in your ultimate best interest, no matter how things appear on the outside. Knowing that is so empowering and can make such a big difference in your life.
Well Antonia, if you liked my experience above, you’re going to love this. I mentioned in my comment on your article that I am looking into training to become a Personal Life Coach. What I didnt’ mention was that I was also up for a promotion at work. The same day I wrote my last comment, I made the decision to withdraw my candidacy for the promotion. If I took the new job, I would be working extended hours and wouldn’t have time to pursue the training. The promotion would mean more money but no time for a life outside of work. After speaking with my manager about stepping down, I felt like it was the right thing to do but there was still that slightest thought “What if I made a mistake?” Here comes the fun part…I went to the vending machine for a snack. I had a dollar for a 75 cent item. When I put my hand in the slot to retreive my quarter change, I pulled out a quarter and a nickle. I had my confirmation from the Universe!!
I love it! I just love it! I’ll be chuckling about this all day!
