There are many practices that we can do to deepen our relationship and become more atuned with nature. If you have some exercises that you’ve used please share a few of your favorites. Some of mine are:

1. Be in a place in nature where all the elements are present (earth, air, etc.) or bring them to a place where you are. Hug each or bring each close to your heart and acknowledge and thank each one for the gift of life each one gives you. You can also pledge to make a special offering that day or ask what offering would be appropriate to make.
2. Sit with Fire (or a flower, rock, tree or other natural thing) and really open up to it like it was your best friend in all the Universe. Talk to it like it’s God (and it is). Express whatever you’re feeling, and be receptive to whatever it is feeling. It can be such a profound and healing experience.
3. (This is the exercise that first helped me establish a conscious two-way connection with Nature). Sit near some trees and fix your gaze between the branches until the trees’ auras become visible. I can’t say what will happen to you after doing this but here’s what happened to me:
I was out there (across from Central Park) for a good while. Finally I saw the auras, figured the exercise was over, and started walking back home. Somebody behind me said “Hello.” I turned but didn’t see the person and kept walking. This went on a few times until I heard “Hello, I’m a tree.” I was stunned. Apparently I tuned into the Tree Broacasting Station while doing the aura exercise. For a brief moment while the tree was speaking, I was inside the tree seeing from her perspective the experience she was trying to convey to me (which was about being still and observing a place as it moves through time). One of the tree teachings that really impacted me and had me reevaluate what I thought it meant to connect to nature was that through it’s branches and roots, through it’s whole being, the tree was connected to every tree, every rock, every pond, every life - not as an intellectual concept but in actuality. And they all share information, and support, etc. There’s this big chunk of reality and experience we can miss out on by not understanding and honoring our place in the natural Life we’re all sharing.
