The Spiritual Reality Behind Swine Flu: Revelations of the Pig Medicine Path (Part 5)

For each of us individually, depending on where we are in our lives, what we do in our profession, and what our gifts and skills may be, the current circumstances can translate into many different opportunities for stewardship. We’re coming out of or I should say we need to come out of a really long era of “Mine, mine, mine! Protect what’s mine!” We need a new slogan: “Ours, ours, ours! Share what’s ours.” A lot of people are having a tough time with it. Pig Medicine path is also about nurturing, which is sharing on a very deep and intimate level. Those who refuse to share, those who will not nurture others, run the risk of having it snatched away. It meaning what you think is important, but really it’s not in light of the new time we’re in.

I think the warning signs that are coming out of the event continuum right now –such as swine flu and the economic collapse, are just the tip of the iceberg, yet at the same time they’re positive signs. Although some people are anticipating the worst, the value of recognizing a sign is in receiving the guidance on how to turn things around, how to best navigate circumstances, or at the very least how to get out harm’s way. 2009 is moving by pretty quickly. Amidst whatever crises or chaos that’s happening in your personal life or on the world stage, there is still opportunity to be seized. If you’re in good shape energetically, if you are in the right space, it is easier to seize those opportunities. You just need to have the strength to pluck the apple from the tree.

 

And that’s the other purpose of the vision question this summer; to develop the inner strength to pluck your apple from the tree. Although pig medicine is about forward motion, among other things, you need to have enough energy and the right energy to get you where you’re going. So we’ll be working with our shaman to help us develop that. Prior to the quest, my organization, the Inner Life Society is sponsoring a pragmatic spirituality workshop June 13 in New York City, with an extraordinary teacher from Mexico, Manolo Cetina. It’s a full-day workshop on how to create your own personal approach to spirituality. It’s a good spiritual warm-up for the work we’ll be doing on the vision quest to Peru, and it’s a good initiation onto the pig medicine path which pushes us into a wonderful and much deeper spiritual life adventure.
