Eat to Nourish, Not to Feed

Dr. Antonia M, “The Inner Power Doctor” shares some essential wisdom to help you stop struggling, start flowing, and make a positive radical change in your life.

260x150__0018_vegetables_avocadoEnlightened Masters have a way of speaking on many levels at once. There’s the message you hear with your ears at the moment, and then there’s the deeper wisdom that unfolds later when your awareness has evolved and you’re ready to understand what else the message was about. Some time ago in enlightenment school (mystery school or wisdom school if you prefer), our Teacher gave us what I thought was a simple yet radical lesson in bringing true health consciousness to our eating habits and to the dinner table. But just the other day, I’m at the computer, and all of a sudden I became aware that there was a hidden teaching in there about tending to deeper needs of the soul. [Read more]

Newsletter: Meditation Videos | March Spiritual Events | Wisdom for the Busy

March 2, 2012

Is it March already?  I hope the year is going well and brings you amazing adventures and new experiences. I’ve been having and amazing adventure working with my dream messages and developing my dreaming consciousness in the Inner Life Society’s Dreamwork Circle. We just met last weekend (Join us for next month’s circle, March 25) or post a dream online). One quick  dreamwork tip that has helped unlocked my dreams’ deeper meanings was symbol association — kind of like word association, but using my dream symbols as the starting point.  Speaking of unlocking deeper meaning… [Read more]

“The City of Right Angles and Tough Damaged People” Embrace Meditation to Heal

January 23, 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“The City of Right Angles and Tough Damaged People” Embrace Meditation to Heal

Unfulfilled New Yorkers Seek the Tools, Motivation and Will Power to Make the Changes Necessary to Close the Gaps between Their Reality and Their Aspirations

NEW YORK, NY JANUARY 23, 2012: According to the American Psychological Association’s (APA) latest “Stress in America: Mind/Body Health” report, New Yorkers continue to struggle to find the will power to make the lifestyle and behavior changes that they desire the most (32 percent vs. 27 percent nationally); this of course results in stagnant or increased levels of stress. The good news however, is that two-thirds (67 percent vs. 61 percent nationally) of New Yorkers recognize the importance of stress management and as a result, have a positive feeling about their “attempts” to manage that aspect of their lives. This awareness is reflected in the increasing number of meditation programs in the city: meditation has long been considered the initial line of defense for stress management and relaxation techniques even though the long-term benefits are even more far-reaching. As a result, it is one of the most common reasons, if not “the” most common reason that individuals begin to meditate.

There are currently 474 meditation groups in NYC on Meetup.com, with memberships ranging from the mid teens to as many as 400+ per group. There has also been a recent influx in mass meditation events with “I Meditate NY” leading the charge. Within a month of them establishing their social media presence, they had acquired 2000 Facebook fans; a number that has grown exponentially to over 4900 today. Their official launch event at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall attracted an unprecedented 2700 attendees! As The New York Times put it, New Yorkers were “Seeking Bliss Among the Honks and Hisses”. Corporate America is also taking note; a recent New York Post article highlighted the increase in the number of organizations facilitating meditation workshops with companies such as Google, Yahoo!, and Martha Stewart in the forefront. These companies all realize that providing their employees with tools to assist them in acquiring coping techniques, as well as achieving work-life balance have an immediate and immeasurable rate of return.

In response to the growing interest in Meditation programs, the City College of New York will be offering its first-ever meditation course this spring. The course, which will introduce participants to the organic meditation process, is an adaptation by course instructor Antonia “Dr. M” Martinez, PhD based on the Meditation Instructors Training Program that she developed for the Inner Life Society in 2007. The course will span the ten-week period of March 29th –May 31st, and will meet every Thursday from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm for a total of twenty-five hours. It will be the first level in a series of meditation studies at the City College, and will be a program with a clear difference: participants can expect to go beyond the usually touted benefits of stress management, relaxation, and mental focus, and look forward to achieving personal breakthroughs. These breakthroughs will allow for the removal of the participant’s developmental blocks, the activation of will power and the realization of the participant’s full potential.

The “personal breakthrough” is Dr. M’s specialty, and the focus of all of her programs; her achievements in this area have been described as innovative, life-changing, and ground-breaking ( www.HealingSpirit.com ). Dr. M summarizes the benefits of meditation as follows, “It’s not just for stress management and life balance–that’s just the appetizer. One of the great advantages of meditation is the increased ability to close the gap between your vision and your reality…and then surpass it. This applies whether it’s the vision for your life, your relationships or for your business.”

The course will be ideal for both beginners who want to learn how to meditate and experienced mediators who wish to expand their skills and deepen their understanding of the inner workings of meditation. It is quite common for experienced meditators to reach a plateau in their progress, and taking this module will be instrumental in helping them to evolve further. Professionals in health, human services, rehabilitation/recovery and related fields will also find the course valuable as meditation has proven to be an effective tool in those fields of work. Entrepreneurs are another group who can expect to benefit from the techniques to be covered. According to a recent study cited in The Huffington Post, 32 percent of Entrepreneurs are already using meditation for introspection and goal setting compared to only 22 percent of non-entrepreneurs. As the article points out, “Entrepreneurs have a strong sense they can take matters into their own hands. But they also face risk, unpredictability and uncertainty. “Prayer and meditation can be important resources for people who are trying to achieve a lot and yet still face the reality that there is only so much they can control.”

The Continuing and Professional Studies Department at City College will be hosting an Open House on February 1st, 2011 from 11:30 AM- 1 PM and 4 PM -7 PM, for all those interested in finding out more about the course. Dr. M will be available at both sessions to answer any questions. To register for the course, please contact the college directly at: 212-650-7312 or www.cps.ccny.edu and reference course #MED100-1HE.
